Coccidiosis in Bali Cattle from Extensive Farm Management

Abstract Bali cattle ( Bos sondaicus ) is an indigenous bovine domesticated in Indonesia and harboring prominent genetic traits for livestock production. Parasite infection, however, may act as a large constraint the husbandry. Bovine coccidiosis well-known major gastrointestinal protozoa which causes significant loss due to intestinal damage drug cost. Coccidia wall derived from thick structures that lead disinfection difficulties. Furthermore, tropical climate largely supports its life cycle throughout year. This study aims determine prevalence of coccidia with extensive rearing system at Balai Pembibitan Ternak Unggul dan Hijauan Pakan Denpasar, Indonesia. All samples were evaluated using native flotation method was followed by descriptive analysis. Deworming reportedly routine activity, but no report on anticoccidial treatment. Eimeria spp. found 24.19% fecal (15/62). The result indicated circulated being observed less compared worms investigated area.
